Smart Plugs™ use a unique alloy of one of nature's most electron-active rare earth elements and stainless steel for its ground electrode. This material has a particularly low work function. (low work function is a measure of a materials ability to emit electrons.) The use of this electron-active material, called ILENIUM™ has enabled us to produce spark plugs with a gap as great as .3175mm. (1/8th of an inch). This exceptionally large gap creates a much larger spark kernel than other spark plugs, no matter what their design or what their electrodes are made of, ensuring more complete combustion. The temperature in your engine combustion chamber can reach a high of 1,800 degrees F. A Smart Plug™ electrode will withstand temperatures as high as 3,0000 F. ILENIUM™ will not "burn" in your engine, nor in any other engine.
